WEST PALM BEACH — Gov Charlie
Crist was a few minutes late this morning but he was
still able to hop on Palm Tran's green bus.
Crist stopped by Palm Tran to
recognize the agency for its environmentally friendly
initiatives, which include using cleaner-burning
biodiesel fuel and nitrogen in bus tires.
"I'm no scientist, but I
understand what scientists tell me," he said. "We have
to get off our dependence on foreign oil. It's important
that we stay independent and stay strong while going
green."
Palm Tran's been "Going Green,"
and Crist has been pushing his own "green" agenda at the
state level. He wants Florida to slash greenhouse gas
emissions 80 percent by 2050.
U.S. Reps. Ron Klein, D-Boca
Raton, and Tim Mahoney, D-Palm Beach Gardens, were
expected to join Crist for a 10 a.m. ceremony today.
Crist hopes to offer $200
million in incentives to kick-start a renewable-energy
economy fueled by solar, wind and biofuels. The governor
also wants to offer motorists the choice of biodiesel at
the pump and for buildings to be 45 percent more
efficient by 2018.
